Each time a significant honors show draws close, there’s always an outcry for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and delight the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
The Representation Problem
Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Just some puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games globally and have been for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
